Senior Software Engineer (Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring)

Job Description

The company seeks a highly motivated software engineer to help develop and create cloud products. As a member of the cloud engineering team, you will be actively involved with various technologies related to distributed systems, virtualization, complex networking, data storage/caching and large scale systems administration. All team members will be encouraged to actively collaborate with open source development teams working on the  project. You will work in a focused, collaborative agile team environment that values individual talent and the ability to communicate and learn.

Responsibilities

- Develop monitoring agents and daemons to track system utilization for cloud physical and virtual hardware
- Aggregate local system statistics into site and global level statistics
- Integrate agents into existing operations monitoring tools used at Internap using standard protocols such as SNMP, XMPP, AMQP or similar
- Work with Internap operations groups to provide real-time status of cloud system
- Provide and maintain interfaces with Internap billing and other customer-facing statistics

Required Skills

- 3+ years programming experience, preferably in object-oriented language such as Java, C++, C# or Python
- Experience deploying network monitoring tools such as Nagios, Ganglia, Zabbix, rrdtool, collectd, and/or Cacti across large (100+ system) deployments
- Understanding of network-based monitoring / management protocols such as SNMP, IPMI, DRAC, ILOM
- Client - server network programming experience

Desired Skills

- Experience implementing REST interface backends and/or client tools
- Solid understanding of L2/L3/L4 networking
- Experience with virtualization hypervisors (KVM, Xen, VMWare)
- Experience using agile software development methodologies and processes
- Experience packaging software (RPMs, .debs, etc..) for broad deployment
- Familiarity with the OpenStack Nova and Swift projects
- Experience using and monitoring resources in a public virtualization cloud such as Amazon EC2, Rackspace or GoGrid
- Experience developing with open source software
